Mari Aoki Knight is Japanese and received her early artistic training in Kamakura, the ancient capital of Japan, situated on the Pacific Ocean south of Tokyo. Since the 1800s, Kamakura was a popular destination for authors and artists. Growing up in a cultural and artistic environment, Mari’s parents were artists – her father a painter and her mother a fashion designer and potter. Since her earliest days, she was happiest when either playing outdoors or creating artistic works. Following a long search for the perfect medium to express herself, Mari discovered fused glass. After additional artistic development in Europe and the United States, she established a studio in Florida and later in Oregon, where Mari creates glass art of vibrant colors and distinct styling. She loves creating jewelry as a wearable art.
